I was born in Estonia during the Soviet occupation years. Looking back now, the Soviet rule may have served me pretty well after all - it was the reason my parents and I immigrated to the United States, and second, with the empty store windows during my childhood years, may have contributed to a less materialistic outlook on life overall!
I went to a music school from grade 1 through 12, after that studied English in college before moving to the United States in 1985.
I have always lead a double life, maintaining simultaneous right and left brain existences, looking for beauty and reason. College education was focused on conceptualizing and solving design problems, not on learning software applications. As computer technology grew, so did my love for computers, and I taught myself to use Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash to create art and express beauty. My competency comes from the real world where I learned by actually doing.
Working for SafeHouse Promotions, a small advertising and design company in Los Angeles, gave me an opportunity to experience many different aspects of the busy advertising industry with its tight deadlines and "crazy designer types". My work experience has provided me with a solid understanding of the digital pre-press production standards and requirements.
I got remarried this year to a full-time professional artist and print-maker, and this summer we moved from Los Angeles to the Portland area, hoping to be surrounded by less pollution and to be closer to nature. Portland is great, and we are enjoying our transition!
